The contractor removed the surround this morning, and the tub is beautiful! It will need to be refinished, but when it is finished it will be so, so lovely.

Exciting Change in Plans!
So, our original plan in the bathroom, as you know, was the remove the claw-foot tub. A previous owner had built a hideously ugly wood surround around the tub, and we assumed that it was because the tub was in bad shape and not worth salvaging.
WE WERE WRONG!!
The contractor removed the surround this morning, and the tub is beautiful! It will need to be refinished, but when it is finished it will be so, so lovely.

Yay! Does this change any of the other bathroom plans?
It means that the whole floor will have to be tiled, but we won't have to do a tile surround on the walls. And we'll get one of those clawfoot shower kits which the contractor will install.
It's exciting!
Hooray. My heart sank when you said you needed to rip out a claw footed bath...this is a lovely solution. Have fun!
What a wonderful surprise that would have been! Your bathroom is going to look so good and timeless.
